'WHEREAS, Butte County recognizes that all children need love, support, security, and a place to call home; and
WHEREAS, every year, more than 100,000 children in foster care in the United States are available for adoption;
and
WHEREAS, the average length of time a child spends in foster care in the United States waiting for an adoptive
family is nearly four years; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately 585 children and youth in foster care in Butte County; approximately 89 of
whom are in need of a permanent home; and
WHEREAS, in the first ten months of this year, 36 Butte County children in foster care have been adopted, and
15 more adoptions will be finalized on National Adoption Day on November 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, adoptive parents and families who have adopted children require and deserve community and public
agency respect and support; and
WHEREAS, November has been designated as National Adoption Awareness Month and is declared so by
presidential proclamation each year; and
WHEREAS, the goal of National Adoption Awareness, Month is to increase public awareness of the needs of
children waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of adoptive parents.
NOW,THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the Coun!ty of Butte, State of
California, hereby declare the month of November 2015i as Adoption Awareness Month in Butte County; recognize that
