*ESOLUTION I 1 APP*ECIATION OF BUTTE COUNTY CLER -IP ECORDER HISTORICAL P ESERVATION VIII ill 'UPS

WHERE A'S, the Butte County Clerk-Recorder would like to recognize a group of ten Historical Preservation
Volunteers who have dedicated over two thousand hours during the past year in preserving Butte County history; and
WHEREAS, these volunteers gave their time, experience, and knowledge to make innumerable historical records
accessible, organized and preserved for the citizens of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, the historical preservation volunteers have worked diligently in a warehouse environment on several
major projects for the Hall of Records; and
WHEREAS, the largest project involved hand-cleaning both sides of nearly 16,000 maps, inserting them into
archival mylar sleeves, attaching glides with screws, and placing into map racks; and
WHEREAS,the volunteers cleaned close to 1,000 books,getting rid of years of accumulated dust,pigeon droppings
(from previous poor storage facility), and general wear and tear; and
WHEREAS, the volunteers retyped old hand-written indexes into a data base that will provide easier searches.
Each line was carefully deciphered, with names, dates, and original book, page numbers being noted. Sixty-five indexes
were completed, with each book consisting of, on average eight thousand entries; and
WHEim.EAS, these incredible volunteers never hesitated to assist with lifting heavy books, painting a wedding
gazebo, or delivering documents to their rightful owners.
