RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE 4TH ANNUAL CASA(COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL
SUPERHERO RUN ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2016
WHEREAS, our children need to do more than simply survive. They need to thrive, in the safety
and love of a family throughout their childhood and into adulthood; and
WHEREAS,there are over 700 children in Butte County that have been abused and/or neglected
and are now in the Dependency Court System, living in foster care; and
WHEREAS,these children face the overwhelming future of multiple foster homes, multiple social
workers, multiple schools, and an uncertain life; and
WHEREAS, at its heart, this is not merely an issue of abuse, or neglect, or of a broken system, or
overburdened workers, but of the unalienable rights of a child. This is about ensuring that every child has
the right to learn,grow and be treated with dignity and respect; and
WHEREAS,Court Appointed Special Advocate(CASA)volunteers are essential in ensuring the child
is heard and supported throughout the Dependency Court Process; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the involvement of a CASA in a neglected and abused child's life
results in the Dependency Court Judges ability to make informed lifelong decisions on behalf of the child;
and
WHEREAS, CASAs provide neglected and abused children in the Dependency Court System with a
consistent caring adult who will ensure the child's safe passage out of foster care, to the benefit of the
child and generations to come; and
WHEREAS, the CASA program is one of the most underfunded programs and the County wishes
to support its fund raising efforts for this worthy program; and
WHEREAS, everyone in the program, from administrators to volunteers to the children who are
in the System, are Superheroes; and
WHEREAS, the CASA support agency has put together a fundraiser for the benefit of our CASA
program by sponsoring a Little Heroes Dash, 5K run/walk and 10K CASA SUPERHERO RUN event on
Saturday, September 17, 201Gim8idvve|| Parkasmoted |nthem/ebsi1em/vvm/.ruo4casa.com.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Saturday, September 17, 2026 is designated as CASA
SUPERHERO DAYand that all citizens of Butte County are urged to support this worthy program and to
participate in the CASA SUPERHERO RUN either as a runner or by financiaily sponsoring runners, including
children who are underthe mantle of the CASA program.
