RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER 2016
AS ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, Butte County recognizes that all children need love, support, security, and a place to call
home; and
WHEREAS, every year, more than 100,000 children in foster care in the United States are available for
adoption.
WHEREAS,the average length of time a child spends in foster care in the United States waiting for an
adoptive family is nearly four years. In Butte County there are approximately 587 children and youth in foster
care; and
WHEREAS, in the first ten months of this year, 46 Butte County children in foster care have been
adopted, and 12 more adoptions will be finalized on National Adoption Day on November 18, 2016; and
WHEREAS, November has been designated as National Adoption Awareness Month and is declared so by
presidential proclamation each year; and
WHEREAS,the goal of National Adoption Awareness Month is to increase public awareness of the needs
of children waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of adoptive
parents.
NOW,THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California, hereby declare the month of November 2016 as Adoption Awareness Month in Butte County;
recognize that every child deserves a permanent and loving family; and encourage all citizens to consider
adoption during the month of November and throughout the year.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of November 2016 by the
following vote:
