AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY
OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND PROVIDING
FOR A SPECIAL COUNTY CHARTER ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE
OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID COUNTY
THE PROPOSITION OF WHETHER OR NOT CERTAIN SPECIFIED
~ AMENDMENTS OF THE CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE SHOULD
BE APPROVED: FIXING THE DATE OF SAID ELECTION AND THE
2 MANNER OF HOLDING THE SAME AND-THE PROCEDURE FOR VOTING
FOR OR AGAINST SAID AMENDMENTS: PROVIDING FOR NOTICE
3 OF SAID ELECTION: AND CONSOLIDATING SAID SPECIAL COUNTY
CHARTER AMENDMENT ELECTRON WITH THE PRIMARY ELECTION

g The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
7 of California, DO ORDAIN as follows:
S Section 1(a). A Special Election is to be held
9 throughout Butte County on June 8, 1976, and is consolidated with
10 the Primary Election, for the purpose of submitting to the qualifi-
II ed voters of the County, the proposition of amending the Charter
].2 of the County of Butte in the following particulars:
IS That Section 7 of Article 4 of the Butte County
].4 Charter is hereby amended to read as follows:
15 The offices of such assistants, deputies, clerks,
18 stenographers and other necessary employees are hereby created.
17 The _incumb:ents shall. be appointed and be subject to removal
18 pursuant to the provisions of a merit system to be established
19 by ordinance by the Board of Supervisors. The number of such
20 offices or the salaries of such assistants, deputies, clerks,
22 stenographers and other necessary employees may be increased or
22 decreased by the Board of Supervisors at such times as may be to
23 the best interest of the county, and such salaries shall be paid
24 to them at the same time, in the same manner, and out of the
~ same fund as the salaries of the county officers are paid,
26 except as in this Charter otherwise provided.

Section 1(b). At said election said proposition shall
be submitted to the qualified voters of the County in the form
of the following county measure, to wit:

Section 2. Pursuant to Government Code §§23722 'and
23709, the Glerk is hereby ordered to have the proposed charter
amendments, as contained in Section 1(a) of this ordinance,
published ten (10) times on ten (ZO) different days in the
following named newspaper, to wit: orovYlle Mercur R~ GtP

(which the Board hereby finds and declares to be a daily newspape-
of general circulation printed, published and circulated in the
County). The first such publication shall be as soon after the
adoption of this ordinance as is possible and in no event later
than the 15th day after the enactment of this ordinance. The

Pursuant to Government Code §23731, the Clerk is hereb;
ordered to have this ordinance published five (5) times on five

(5) different days, prior to the herein set election, in the
following named newspaper, to wit: Chico Enterprise Record
(which the Board hereby finds and declares to be a daily newspaper
of general circulation printed, published and circulated in the
County)o
No notices of the election other than those specified
in Section 2 of this ordinance, need be given.
Section 3, Pursuant to Government Code §25123, this
ordinance shall take effect imamediately.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Super-
visors this 3p day of March 1.976 , by the
following vote:
