WHEREAS, the Economic Opportunity Act (EOA) of 1964 provided local officials across the country with the ability to access federal funding resources to effectively address the causes and conditions of poverty in their communities through the creation of community action programs designed to promote greater self-sufficiency of low-income residents; and WHEREAS,the creation of such community action programs, as set forth in the ECA,was designed to provide flexibility to communities by focusing on the importance of local problem-solving that included local people pursuing local strategies to address local needs; and WHEREAS, the Community Action Agency of Butte County, Inc. was originally created by the Board of Supervisors as the Economic Opportunity Council of Butte County, Inc. on January 2.7, 1967 in fulfillment of the designation of an anti-poverty agency required to access EOA resources and subsequently renamed; and WHEREAS, the Community Action. Agency of Butte County, Inc. has continuously engaged in local problem- solving and provided opportunities for residents to increase their self-sufficiency through various programs and activities including: regional residential energy-efficiency, the regional Forth State Food Bank, the Esplanade Douse transitional housing for homeless families, the Countywide Homeless Continuum of Care, and many others; and WHEREAS,the month of May has been designated as Community Action Month by the national Community Action Partnership, the member organization of the network of community action agencies that covers 99'% of the nation's counties for purposes of acknowledging the role that local Community Action Agencies play in their communities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes the Community Action Agency of Butte County, Inc.. for its 50 years of service to residents of the County and the cities within it.
