the number one killer of peace officers is firearms, with an increased incidence of ambush. The ten California officers
were memorialized on Monday May 8th in Sacramento and all 135 will be memorialized on May 15th in Washington
D.C. These memorial ceremonies are a time to remember our indebtedness to the brave and dedicated Peace
Officers who accept a gob that is difficult and dangerous; and
WHEREAS, as a symbol of respect and remembrance to those who have laid down their lives in the line of
duty and a show of our support to law enforcement officers working to protect our communities, blue ribbons are
flown on personal cars and patrol cars during Police Week; and
WHEREAS, in a four-year time span, the Butte County Sheriffs Office lost three deputies in the line-of duty
all to gunfire; Deputy Randy Jennings in 1997 and Deputy Bill Hunter and Lieutenant Larry (Estes in 2001. Also killed
in the line of duty were Deputy Constable A.D Miner in 1934, Sheriff Alvin Kister in 1937. and Deputy Charles Brown
