WHEREAS, Brenda began her career with Butte County on ,April 11, 1977, as the Library's first professional librarian managing Technical Services; and WHEREAS, Brenda also worked as an Audio Librarian and Reference Librarian for the Library, and, in February 1994, promoted to Librarian III, a position now known as Branch Librarian, eventually serving a,s the manager for the Oroville, Paradise, and Chico branch libraries; and even standing in as Interim County Librarian for 30 days in 20912; and WHEREAS, throughout her career, Brenda has enthusiastically been at the forefront of library innovation, from leading the transition to computer and data processing to the Library in the early 1980s,to creating a Veterans Resource Center, to planning the new Chico Library MakerSpace, and much more; always volunteering for pilot projects and working until the projects succeed; and WHEREAS, Brenda's can-do attitude and flexibility has kept her positive and forward-thinking through many decades, imaginatively problem-solving, acquiring and stretching library resources to best serve the community, and empowering her staff to do the same; and WHEREAS, Brenda's deep knowledge of library work reached beyond Butte County in service to regional, state and national efforts; Brenda often flying her Cessna singlle-engine plane to meetings to share her wisdom and ideas with groups such as the North State Automation Committee; the California Library Association PR Excellence Award Committee; the Association for Rural and Small Libraries Marketing Committee; the Beatty Book Award Committee; and the American Library Association Resources and Technical Services Division regional subcommittee; amongst many others; and WHEREAS, Brenda served as an active leader in the Butte County Management Employees'Association as an advocate and champion not just for librarians but all management classifications,serving as the Association president from 2006-2015; and WHEREAS, Brenda was a founding member of the Butte County Book in Common program, helping to select books that challenge and inspire Butte County residents of all walks of life since 2008; and WHEREAS, Brenda's considerate and kind nature has been an example to other County staff and a great benefit to County customer service, her calm and fair treatment of others, and ability to make the most of change, contributing to the morale and, effectiveness of the Library department; and:, WHEREAS, everything Brenda works on is vibrant! NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby wishes to express gratitude for Brenda's dedication to the County for over 40 years, in support of promoting innovative, responsive library services to the residents of Butte County.
