Resolution No.. 18-093 RESOLUTION CONTINUING THE PROCLAMATION OF'LOCAL EMERGENCY—CHEROKEE AND LA PORTE FIRES WHEREAS, on October 8, 2017, wild fires called Cherokee and La Porte began in and around the County of Butte; and WHEREAS, the Cherokee and La Porte fires burned more than 14 thousand acres of land, destroyed multiple structures in Butte County, including homes, and caused the evacuation of residents and damage to roads and other critical infrastructure; and WHEREAS, on October 9, 2017, Butte County Chief Administrative Officer Paul Hahn declared a Local Emergency in Butte County, which declaration was ratified by the Board of Supervisors on October 10, 2017; and WHEREAS, on October 9, 2017, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.. issued an emergency proclamatlon for Butte County due to the effects of the fires; and WHEREAS, together the Cherokee and La Porte fires destroyed an estimated 42 Ihomes, 4 commercial buildings and 50 additional structures, and as a result created an enormous amount of debris; and WHEREAS, some of the ash in the burned structures resulting from the Cherokee and La Porte fires contains hazardous material,which has created a health emergency and poses substantial present and potential hazard to human health and safety and to the environment unless it is addressed and managed; and WHEREAS,on October 18,2017,the local Health Officer declared a local health emergency to exist in Butte County due to the debris resulting from the Cherokee and La Porte fires, which was initially ratified by the Board of Supervisors on October 24, 2017. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the declaration of Local Emergency in Butte County due to the Cherokee and La Porte fires shall be deemed to continue to exist until its termination, PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 26th day of.Dune, 2018, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk,Teeter, and Chair Lambert NOES: None lei NOT VOTING None Steve Lamb , Chair Butte County Board of Supervisors ATTEST.
