Impressed by the richness of the soil and the land's access to Butte Creek, Ralph put his engineering skills from LIC Berkeley to use, leveling the ground, and designing a gravity-fed water delivery system that is the basis for all irrigation on the main rice ranch today; and WHEREAS, Ralph and Elizabeth Gorrill have three daughters, SaJlly, Anne, and Jane, who have continued Ralph's legacy of innovation with large-scale engineering projects and additions. Their three daughters diversified the rice operation with the purchase and development of tree crops, including prunes, almonds, walnuts, and pecans; and WHEREAS, Ralph and Elizabeth Gorrill have 10 grandchildren, who have continued the innovation and expansion pioneered on Gorrill Ranch; and WHEREAS, the 13 great grandchildren of Ralph and Elizabeth Gorrill, have now assumed leadership roles at strategic levels,bringing new energy and complimentary experience to the ranch as it celebrates its 1001h anniversary; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors honors Gorrill Ranch's enduring legacy to practice innovative and sustainable farming,while adhering to honorable business principles, preserving wildlife and other natural resources, and contributing to the welfare of the community.. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes Gorrill Ranch upon the celebration of its 100th anniversary.
