Resolution No. 18-138
RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF DR. GERALD M'AGUIRE UPON HIS RETIREMENT
FROM THE BUTTE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
WHEREAS, Dr.Gerald Maguire, Psychiatrist at the Department of Behavioral Health, has announcedhis retirement
effective September 5, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Maguire, began his career with the County of Butte in January 1967 as the first and founding
program Director of the County Mental Health program, serving as Director until 1981; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Maguire worked from 1981-1987 on a half-time basis with the County providing treatment services
and half-time with the State of California developing a protocol for measuring the effectiveness of county mental health
programs; and
WHEREAS,upon his initial retirement in 1987, Dr. Maguire continued working on a part-time basis until September
2018 providing mental health treatment services within every clinic throughout the County; and
WHEREAS, as a Director and a Psychiatrist, Dr. Maguire has dedicated himself to pioneering several mental health
service programs including the development of a non-hospital based acute psychiatric inpatient program that came to be
known as Psychiatric Health Facilities; and
WHEREAS, Dr, Maguire has devoted his career to improving the lives of Butte County residents through his tireless
focus on meeting their needs through his work and by championing many mental health service initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Maguire has worked diligently for over 51 years in the best interest of Butte County and its citizens,
earning the respect of his colleagues, employees, and the many citizens served over the years.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, on its awn behalf and on behalf
of the citizens of Butte County, extends its appreciation for your many years of'dedicated service.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 11" day of September, 2018, by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, kirk,Teeter, and Chair Lambert
