Resolution No. 18-165
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CLOSURE OF COUNTY OFFICES ON DECEMBER 24, 2018
AND APPROVING A CORRESPONDING ADDITIONAL HOLIDAY FOR COUNTY EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS,the Board of Supervisors wishes to recognize the hard work of dedicated County employees; and
WHEREAS, residents typically conduct a reduced amount of County business on Christmas Eve day; and
WHEREAS,the County's Personnel) Rules specify that days declared by the President or Governor as
federal or State holidays shall be observed as County holidays; and.
WHEREAS,the President sometimes declares, with very little notice, Christmas Eve as a holiday which is
difficult to plan for; and
WHEREAS, County offices that already operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and County offices
required by legislation, regulation or other mandate to be open will continue their operations as required; and
WHEREAS,the Board of Supervisors intends the closure and holiday hours to be one-time in nature and
not precedent setting; and
WHEREAS,the Board of Supervisors, under Government Code §242.60, has the authority to set.County
business hours by ordinance or resolution.
NOW,THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors approves the closure of
County offices that are not otherwise required to be open on Monday, December 24, 2018; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that:
(1) all County employees be granted a one-time additional holiday, per the applicable Memorandum of
Understanding; and
(2) provisions outlined in the County's Personnel Rules that apply to employees who work on designated
holidays will apply; and
(B) the closure of County Offices on December 24, 2018 as an additional holiday granted to County
employees is one-time in nature and is not to be construed as precedent setting for any future year; and
(4) should the President or Governor declare Christmas Eve as a holiday it will not result in an
additional holiday to the holiday approved by the Board of Supervisors.
