Resolution No. 18-170
RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF DAVID A. HOUSER UPON HIS RETIREMENT
FROM THE BUTTE COUNTY AUDITOR-CONTROLLER'S OFFICE
WHEREAS, David A. Houser, Auditor-Controller of Butte County, has announced his retirement effective
December 28, 2018; and
WHEREAS, David, a son of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania..,, and a U.S. Navy veteran, began his first employment in
public service as a police officer for the Union City, Pennsylvania, Police Department in 1972; and
WHEREAS, after his years on the police force, and subsequent 10 years as a Controller in private industry,
David came West; and
WHEREAS, prior to David's career at Butte County, he was the Internal Auditor for Glenn County; and
WHEREAS, David began his career with the County of Butte as the Chief Deputy Auditor-Controller in 1984,
a position he held for six years and two months; and
WHEREAS, David was elected to the office of Butte County Auditor-Controller in 1990, began his service in
19971 and has served) in this capacity for 28 years; and
WHEREAS, under David's leadership, the Butte County Auditor Controller Office received the Certificate of
Achievement far Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Government Finance {officers Association (GFOA)
for the past twelve years; and
WHEREAS, during his career, David has been a member of the State Association of County Auditors (SACH)
and has served on its Legislative Committee for the past 20 years, its Standards Committee, Policy Committee and
Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, in his local Butte County community, David has served as a member of the Butte College Business
Advisory Board for the past 10 years, and continues to serve in this capacity; and
WHEREAS, in his local Butte County community, David has served as a member of the Rotary Club of Paradise,
CA for 15 years, for 12 of them as Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, in his local Butte County community, David has served as a member of the Board of Directors of
the Work Training Center for the Handicapped, Inc., which provides work for adults with developmental disabilities,
in Chico, CA for 14 years, and was its President from 1992 to 1994; and
WHEREAS, David has worked diligently for the past 34 years in the best interest of Butte County and its
citizens, earning the respect of its citizens and his colleagues and employees locally, and his fellow Auditor-
Controllers statewide; and
WHEREAS,the staff of the Butte County Auditor-Controller office will miss David greatly, and wishes him and
Sheri Houser all the best for many happy years of retirement ahead.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of Butte
County, extends its appreciation for many years of dedicated service.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 11th day of December, 2018, by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Teeter, and Chair Lambert
