Resolution No. 18-181
RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF StUPERIVSOR LARRY WAHL
WHEREAS, Supervisor Larry Wahl first became a resident of Butte County in 1945 when he and his parents
relocated to Chico. He graduated from California State University, Chico, in 1964, and married Chico native Mary Fanno.
The two raised five children in Butte County; and.
WHEREAS, Supervisor Wahl joined the United States Navy, becoming a veteran of the Vietnam War where then
Commander Wahl served two combat tours, flying 178 missions from Aircraft Carriers, and received several awards for
valor; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Wahl served with the Spanish Navy where he designed and implemented the operations
and training program for Harrier "Jump" Jet and Aircraft Carrier Operations and was awarded the Spanish Navy Cross.
Furthermore, during the Reagan Presidency, Supervisor Wahl was the Liaison Officer to the White House Military Office
in support of"Western White House” aircraft operations; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Wahl continued his public service after his tenure in the Navy when he was appointed to
the City of Chico Planning Commission, and subsequently elected to the Chico City Council in 2000, serving the City of
Chico as a Councilmember from 2001 to 2010, where he served on the Finance Committee for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Wahl was elected to the Butte County Board of Supervisors in 2010, and began serving as
the District 2 Supervisor on January 3, 2011,. where he served on numerous boards and committees, such as the Butte
County Association of Governments, Rural County Representatives of California, Sutter-Butte Flood Control Joint Powers
Authority, Sycamore-Mud Creek Levee Systems Committee, Butte Regional Waste Management Authority, and the Air
Quality Management District; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Wahl supports the veterans of Butte County as an active member of Vietnam Veterans,
American Legion, American Veterans, and was a past Commander of the Chico Post 1555 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Supervisor Wahl received the honor of Veteran of the Year in 2009 from the California State Assembly;and
WHEREAS, outside of his capacity as a Butte County Board of Supervisor, Supervisor Wahl is a member of the
Rotary International, is a Paul Harris Fellow, and an active Elks Lodge member where he receivedthe Chico Elks Citizen of
the Year Award. Supervisor Wahl has also served on the Chico Salvation Army Advisory Board, and is a past Chairman;
and
WHEREAS,Supervisor Wahl enjoys traveling and vintage map collecting, which will serve him and his wife well as
they spend time flying throughout Northern California and the west in their 1941 'U.S. Navy Biplane.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, on its own behalf and on behalf
of the residents of Butte County, wish to recognize Supervisor Larry Wahl for his dedication and service to the people of
Butte County.
