To provide for orderly .development ar~d eliminate dupl~.cation anal, uncertainty, a definite system of finding dwellings and business loca- bons rapidly asxd with certainty is needed is the interest of the public health, welfare and safety far the unincorporated areas of the County of Butte. Each addressing area, as defined in Section 32-3, will have an addressing cotmmittee. Each committee will have five members who reside in the area they represent, The largest city or M~4C in each addressing area will have a representative on the committee who will be its Address Area. Coordinator. This Coordinator, along with a representative f~cam a law en~ farceffient agency, fire agency, ambulance agency and the. post office, will comprise the five members a£ the area comanittees, These committees will study the existing road names and problems with addresses in their areas and recommend necessary changes to be made to clarify existing duplicate and sound-alike road names, and existing addresses that are in error to I achieve a coherent and organized system, and will~ke all recommendatkans to the County Address Coordinator.. C, The Address Coordinator shall make sure-that all new-road names avoid duplication and da not sound like existing road names in Butte County. D. The Address Coordi.natar shall issue to any building owner or occupant in an unincorporated area of Butte County upon request and ,without charge, a number or numbers in accordance with this ordinance, Ee The Address Coordinator shall be responsible for maintaining the numbering and road naming system and. shall .keep a record of all numbers and names assigned under this ordinance. Said records shall be open far inspection by the public during regular business hours. F. The Address Coordinator will coordinate-all naming or renaming and addressing whin the incorporated cities in Butte County to achieve a coherent and organ~.zed system of addressing for the whale of Butte County. Clerk will show the boundaries of the four address areas. Addressing maps. showing the. systems- and addresses will be filed in the office of tl~e Address Coordinator. SECTXON 32-4: Street-Naming Procedureo A. Street names shall be required of every access that serves at least three (3) dwellings and/or business establishments or combix~ati.on thereof, except in mobile home parks, condominiums, shopping centers and apartment-type developments. In these cases, street names will not be permittedP B.. Mobile home parks, condominiums, shopping centers and apartzaeat- type developments that have existing road or street, names will within sixty {60} days of the notice given by the Address Coordinator showing the address and space or apartment numbers take down existing road or street name signs and erect the signs in accordance with the provisions of Saction 32-5, pars, graph C-5 of this ordinance. ~. C, All streets or roads shall be known by the same naffie for the entire length, except that the Warne may, change when the street or road crosses a base line. D. The County of Butte shall have the right to name ar rename all private roads, access or easements and county roads in the unincorporated areas of Butte County. E. All road names wi11 be reviewed by the Address-Coordinator befar being subm~.tted to the Board of Supervisors. -3- 1 SECTION 32-4: Street-Namin Fxoceduxe {continued) ~ R. Any new county road may be officially named upon petition to 9 the Addxess Coordinator in the form of a map showing location and ala_gmment 10 of the road to be named and five {5} proposed names. These names wild. be Z], studied to assure they do not duplicate or sound like any existing road names 12 in the County. If one of these road names does not conflict with any exist- 13 ing road names, this name will be recomnnended to the Board of sv.pervisors 14 in the form of a Resolution of Inte~xtion. Upon approval by the Board of 15 Supervisors, thereafter such road shah. be afcficially known by the name so ~,g designated. i 1? Upon 28 approval by the Board of Supervisors thereafter such road shall be officially known by the name so designated. The Resolu- Lion of Intention shall be set for public hearing and notice of such hearing shall be given by posting notice in at least three public places along the road or roads proposed to be affected; such gosta.ng to be complete at least ten (10) days before the day set for the hearing. At the time set for hear or at any time. to which the hearing may be continued, the Board shall hear and consider proposals to change the name of such road and upon adoption of the change thereof, sha11 make a resolution officially designating the name for said road. Thereafter, such road shall be known by the name so designtate . SECTION 32-7• Street name signs for existing caunty roads wild, be erected and main- twined by the Department of Public WarksQ Street name signs for new county roads established by subdivisions and site improvements--the person doing the subdivision or improvements will supply and erect all road signs to Butte County standards. The Butte County Degartmeztt of Public Works will maintain the signs. SECTION 32-5: Addressing Procedure A. Prior to the issuance of any address number, the principal access to the property shall bear a name i,n accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, C. The main entrance wi~.l be numbered off the road it enters. 2e Street names will not be permitted. 3o Ea.ch space or apaxtmer~t will be assigned a space number or apartment number by the Address Coordinator. 4o The owner ar develdpex of this L-ype. of development will supgly the Address Coordinator with a small map showing all the spaces or apartments and interior. streets to allow; numbers to be assigned, (Recos~mtended scale of this simall map is 1" = 200'), A copy will then be sent to each, emergency agency and post office far their use. 5p At all intersections in this type of development there shall be a s ign. showing the space or -~aparttuent nu~uber range ahead on the side roads, SECTION 32-9: Disp~as_of~Numbers The Address Coordinator shall give notice to the occupants or owners of buildings which are assigned ox reassigned numbers under this system, which notice shah, contain, the new number ox nunnber reassigned to a particular. building, and the date on which the new number shall be effective. SEC'~IbN 2: This ordinance shall take effect thirty (3O) days after its passage, and before the expiration of fifteen (l5) days after-its passage, it shall be published with the names of the members voting far and against the same, once in a local newspaper published in the Couzxty of Butte, State of California.
