in purchasing the food they need to maintain adequate nutritional levels; and
\0HENEAS,[aKFresh provides for the nutritional needs ofvulnerable populations within Butte County, increasing
their opportunities for success; and
WHEREAS, 15,228 Butte County households currently receive CalFresh benefits, resulting in 27,149 individuals
having, increased access to healthy foods; and
WHEREAS, beginning June I, 2019 individuals who receive Supplemental Security |n Supplemental
Payment (SSI/SSP) will be eligible to participate in the CalFresh program, increaising the long term health of an additional
l0,279potential recipients inButte County; and
WHEREAS, low income hmwoeho|dsvviN have continued access to [a8Fnesh benefits and associated progmymsthat
continue to provide access to vital nutritional programis and resources that benefit our communities; and
WHEREAS, public agencies and community partners are collaborating tncombat insufficient access bVnutritional
needs for vulnerable populations and raise awareness of the availability of CalFresh to all community members.
NOW, THEREFORE, BEIT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
May 201gayC�a|FmeshAwareness Month imButte County, established 10raise awareness ofthe availability mfthe Ca|Fmesh
program, with the goal of increasing access to nutritional programs that can positively impact the health and well-being
nfcommunity members.
