WHEREAS, there are over 70Ochildren inButte County that have been abused and/or neglected and are now in
the Dependency Court System, living in foster care. These children face the overwhelming future of multiple foster homes,
multiple social workers, multiple schools, and an uncertain, life; and
WHEREAS, etits heart, this isnot merely amissue nfabuse, or neglect, ornfabroken system, oroverburdened
workers, but Vfthe unalienable rights Vfachild. This isabout ensuring that every child has the right tolearn, grow and
betreated with dignity and respect; and
WHEREAS, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers, are essential in ensuring the child isheard and
supported throughout the Dependency Court Process. The involvement nfCASAs in the life of neglected and abused
child results in the Dependency Court Judge's ability to make informed lifelong decisions on behalf nfthe child. [&SAs
provide neglected and abused children: in the Dependency Court System with a consistent caring adult who will ensure
the child's safe passage out offoster care, tothe benefit ofthe child and generations tocome; and
WHEREAS, the C4G4 program is one ofthe most underfunded programs and the County wishes to support its
fundraising efforts for this worthy program. Everyone in the program from administrators to volunteers to the children
who are imthe system are Superheroes; and
WHEREAS, the CASA support agency has pmt together a fundraiser for the benefit of our CASA program by
sponsoring aLittle Heroes Dash, 5Krun/nwa|kand 1OKCASA SUPERHERO RUN event onSaturday, September 14,2O19in
Bidwell Park asnoted onthe CASA website vvvvvv.rum4cosexom.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby designates Saturday, September 14
2819, as CASA SUPERHERO DAY. The Board of Supervisors encourages all residents of Butte County to support the
fundraising efforts ofthis worthy program byparticipating imthe CASA SUPERHERO RUN orsponsoring arunner.
