WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month creates an important opportunity for Butte County residents to prepare
for any type of emergency, from natural disasters to terrorist attacks; and
WHEREAS, the theme for National Preparedness Month 2019 is "Prepared, Not Scared"; and
WHEREAS, Butte County has experienced eight declared disasters since January 2017, which includes federal,
state, and locally -declared disasters; and
WHEREAS, every individual has a personal responsibility to be prepared; and
WHEREAS, investing time and effort in emergency preparedness can reduce fatalities and economic impacts; and
WHEREAS, Butte County encourages its residents, businesses, and schools, to prepare for emergencies by
compiling emergency preparedness kits, engaging in community preparedness and response efforts, and developing
emergency plans that include pets and livestock; and
WHEREAS, all residents of, and visitors to, Butte County are encouraged to sign up to receive emergency
notifications by registering with Code Red located at www.buttecounty.net/MassNotification; and
WHEREAS, Butte County works to meet the needs of the community through ongoing education, planning, and
preparedness efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, IBE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes the month of September
2019 as National Preparedness Month, and encourages all residents and businesses to take personal responsibility for
their emergency preparedness by developing emergency plans and working together to create a more prepared
community.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 24th day of September, 2019 by the
following vote:
