COUNTY CODE RELATIVE TO NAMING STREETS AND
HIGHWAYS; NUMBERING PROPERTIS AND PRINCIPAL
BUILDINGS IN THE COUNTY OF BUTTE

The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California,- D0 ORDALN. as._.follows : -_
Section 1. That Section 32-4 of the Butte County Code
~,is hereby amended to read as follows:
§32-4. Streetnaming procedure.
(a) Street names shall be required of every access
that serves. at least three (3) dwellings and/or business estab-
lishments or combination thereof, except in mobile home parks,
condominiums, excepting condominium subdivisions, shopping centers
and apartment-type developments. In these cases, street names
will not be permitted.
(b) Mobile Name parks, condominiums, excepting
condominium subdivisions, shopping centers and apartment-type
developments that have existing roads or street names will,
within sixty (60) days of the notice given by the address
coordinator showing the address and space or apartment numbers,
take down existing road or street name signs and erect the signs
in accordance with the provisions of section 32-g, subsection (c)
(5) of this chapter.
(c) All streets ar roads shall be known by the same
name. for the entire length, except that the name may change when
the street or road crosses a base line.
(d} The County of Butte shall have the right to name ~.
or rename all private roads, access or easements and county roads
in the unincorporated areas of Butte County.
(e) All road names will be reviewed by the address

coordinator before being submitted to the board of supervisors.
_. _ (f) Whem..naming..or. renaming. any. road, access. or ..
easement, the address coordinator will contact one person living
on said road, access or easement to circulate a petition for
selecting a name or new name. If within thirty (30) days a new
name has not been submitted to the address coordinator, the County
of Butte will have the right to select a name ar new name for said
road, access or easement.
(g) Any new county road may be officially named upon
petition to the address coordinator in the farm of a map showing
the location and alignment of the road to be named and five (5)
proposed names. These names will be studied to assure they do not
duplicate or sound like any existing raced names in the county.
If one of these road names does not conflict with any existing
road names, this name will be recommended to the board of super--
visors in the form of~a resolution of intention. Upon approval
by the board of supervisors, thereafter such road shall be offi-
cially known by the name so designated.
Section 2. That Section 32-5 of the Butte County Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
§32-5. Addressing procedure. .
(a) All addresses will be assigned or reassigned in
laccord with the appropriate area and in normal sequence to its
respective block.
(b) Prior to the issuance of any address number, the
principal access to the property shall bear a name in accordance

with the provisions of this chapter.
- (c) Mobile home-parks, condominiums ,.. .excepting.....,
condominium. subdivisions, shopping centers or apartment-type
developments [will be addressed as follows:]
(1} The main entrance will be numbered
off the road it enters.
(2) Street names will not be permitted.
(3} Each space or apartment will be
assigned a space number or apartment
number by the address coordinator.
(4) The owner or developer of this type
of development will supply the address
coordinator with a small map showing
all the spaces or apartments and
interior streets to a11aw numbers to
be assigned. (Recommended scale of
this small map is 1" = 200'). A copy
gill then be sent to each emergency
agency and post office for their use.
{5) At all intersections in this type of
develop~z-ent there shall be a sign
showing the space or apartment number
range ahead on the side roads.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect thirty (30)
days after its passage and before the expiration of fifteen (15)
days after its passage, it shall be published with the names of
the members voting far and against it in the Orovifle Mercury
a newspaper published in the County
~~of Butte, State of California.
