RE: AB 495 -Harts Mill Fire Station in Berr Creek
Dear Assemblyman Logue:
Thank you for introducing Assembly Bill 495 that will support the proposed
transfer of the Harts Mill Fire Station in Berry Creek from the State of California to
Butte County, The Feather River Recreation and Park District is in full support of
the proposed legislation. The Board of Directors of the Feather River Recreation
and Park District and staff have been in open discussions with Butte County and
representatives of the Berry Creek community in exploring the many recreational
opportunities the Harts MiII site will afford the citizens of Berry Creek.
Unfortunately, many of our rural communities have few recreational
opportunities available to the residents due the distance they are from developed
parks, cultural centers, and the more concentrated population centers that afford a
great variety of activities and cultural events. The Harts Mill Fire Station has good
potential to serve as a park, recreational center and activity center for the Berry
Creek community.
I recently met with a group of citizens from Berry Creek who have assessed the
Harts Mill property and have begun to develop plans for restoration of the
barracks and improvements to the property, including the required ADA
regulations. They are serious about their efforts to preserve the .property and the
historic buildings. I am certain that the development of the Harts Mill Fire Station
as a park and recreational facility will become a matter of pride for the
community.
