AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVTSORS OF THE COUNTY
OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND PROVIDING
FOR A SPECIAL COUNTY CHARTER ELECTION FOR TH~ PURPOSE
OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALTFIED ELECTORS OF SAID
COUNTY THE PROPOSIT~ON OF WHETHER OR NO~ AN AMENDMENT
TO THE CHARTER OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE SHOULD B~
APPROVED; F~XTNG THE DATE OF SAID ELECTION AND THE
~4ANNER OF HOLDING THE SAM~ AN~ THE PROCEDURE FOR
VOTING FOR OR AGAINST SA~D AM~NDMENTS; PROV3DING FOR
NOTZCE DF SA~D ELEC~ION; AND CONSQLIDAT~NG SAID
SPECIAL COUNTY CHARTER AMENDMENT ELECTTON WiTH THE
GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 4, i986
The Boa~d o~ Superv~sors o~ the Caunty af Bu~te, 5tate of
Cali£arnia, DQ ORDAIN, as fol.Iaws:
Section 1(a) A special el.ection is hereby called to be
held and consolidated with the General Election on November 4, 1986,
for the purpose of submitting to the quali~ied vo~ers of the County,
the propasition of amending the Charte~ o~ the County of Butte as
~oliows:
That Sectinn 2 of Articl.e IV of the Butt~ County
Charter be amended to read as fol.lows.
"Section 2. Cansolidation af offic~s.
The following o~fic~s are hereby consolidated:
(a) The public guardian sha11. be e~ officio
public administrator;
(b) The sheriff shall be ex officia coroner;
{ c) The trea~urer sha].7. be ex o~ficio tax
collector and ex officio license collector;
(d} The surveyor sha1~ be ex offiCio road engineer;
(e) The health o~ficer shal~. be ex afficio caunty
physician;
(~} The c~.erk sha11 be ex officio recorder.°
This amendment shall becorne effec~ive at Naon on January 6, 1957.
Section 1(b). At said eiec~.ion, said proposition sha11 be
submitted to the qualified voters o£ the County in the form of the
following caunty measure, to wit:

Sectian 2(a) This Board daes hereby submit to the
qualified electars of the County at the special county charter
amendr~ent election an amendrnent to the Charter of the County o~
Butte, and hereby desi.gnates and refers to said meas~re in the
form set ~orth in Section 7.{b) he~einafter prescribed for use at
the special county charter amendr~ent electaon.
Section 2{b}. The special county charter amendment
e].ection is consolidated w.ith the ~eneral Election and shall be held
and conducted, and the votes thereat received and canvas~ed, and the
results thereof made and the r~sults thereof ascertained and deter-
mined as herein provided, said el.ection shall be held as nearly as
practicab~e in canformity with the election 3.aws of the State of
Cai~ornia and only quaiified vote~s a~ the Caunty may vote thereat.
Sec~~.on 2(c) . The spaci.al county charter ar~endment election
hereby called sha~~ be and is hereby cansol~.dated with the General
Elect~.on ta be held throughout the County on November 4, 1986, ~.ii
as required by ar~d pursuant to law; and the eiectian precincts,
polling places and voting boo~.hs sha~l in every case be the same
and there shall be only ane set of election officers in each o£
said precincts. The e~ection precincts, ballots and absentee
ballo~s, poll~ng places and officers of elect~on far this specia~
county charter amendment election shall be as es~abli.shed for the
General ~lection.

1 Section 2(d). The provisions of Artic~e 3 af Chapt~r 2
2 of Division 4 of the Elections Code sha11 apply ~o said special
3 county charter arnendmen~ electian and the County Counse~ sha~~
4 prepare an analysis o~ said county meas~re in the manner provided
5 in Eiections Cade Sectian .3781.
6 Sectian 2{e}. The r~turns o~ said ~lection shall be made
7 out and signed by the election o~ficers and shall be by them
g deposited with the County Clerkr together wi.th the ba]..~ots cast at
g said e1.~ction and the said retu~ns shali be canvassed or caused to
~p be canvassed in the sa~ne manner as provided by law for General
11 ~lec~ions.
j2 Section 3. Pursuan~. to Government Cade Sections 23722
~3 and 23709, the Clerk is hereby o~'dered ta have ~.he proposed charter
I4 am~nd~nent, as contain~d in Section 1.{a) of this ordinance, published
~5 ten (10 ) tirries an ten (10 } di~ferent days in the fo~lowing narned
~S newspaper, to wit: Chico Enterpr~.se Record ,
17 which the Board hereby ~inds and declares to be a daily newspaper
18 af general ciarculatian printed, published ancl circu.lated in the
~g Cot~nty. The first such publzcation shall be as soon after the
2p adnp~ian of this ord~nance as is possible and in no event ~ater
21 tha~z the 15th day after the enac~ment of tha.s ordinance. The
22 last such publication sha7.1 occur no later than seventy-~our (74}
2~ days prior ta the election.
24 Pursuant to Gov~rnment Code Sectin 23731.,
2~ ~.he C1erk is hereby ardered to have this ardinance publ~shed fiv~
~C~ (5) d~.fferent days, prior to the herein set elec~ion, in the

of general circulation printed, published and circulated in the
County.
Sectian 4. Pursuant to Governmen~ Code Section 25123
this ordinance sha~1 take effect immediately.
