That Chapter 2-11.1 of the Bt~~te Caun~y Cade is hereby amez~fled to read as follows: ~ 2-11_1. Juror fees. {a) Civii cases. In accordance with California Code of Civi1 Procedu~e ~ec~ion 196, as amende.~ ~y the Statutas af 1987, Chapter 134, the fee #or ~rial jurors in ~he superior and munie~.pal cour~s, i.n civil cases, is ~i~e c~ollars ($5.fl0} a day for each days' attendance as a juror; and trial jurors in ~he superior and munic~.pa2 courts shall }~e reimhur~ed for mileage at ~he rate of fifteen cents ($0.15} per mile for each mile actually traveled in attending court as a juror, in going only. (b) Criminal cases. In accordance with Cal~farnia Penal Code Section ~.143, as amended by the Statutes of 1987r Chlp~er' ~.34, tha fee for trial jurors i~ the super~.or and m~nicipal courts, in criminal ~ases, is five dol~.ars ($5.fl0) for each day's a~tendance; and ~ra~a1 jurors ~.n the superior and munzcipal courts shall be reimbursed far mileage at ~he rate of fifteen ~ents t$~.15) per mi.1e for each mile necessari.ly traveled in attending court, in going only, Sect~on 2. This ordinance is an urgency ordinance for the immediate preservation af the publ~c health and safety and sha11 take e~fect immedi.ately t~pon the passage therea~. The fa~ts constituting such urgency are: A_ The S~ate Legis~.ature has amended Cade af Civil Procedure Section ].96 as an urgency statute necessary for the -2- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ~0 I1 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 22 22 23 24 2~ 26 immedia~e preservation of the public peace, health or safety wxthin the meaning of Article IV o€ the Co~stitution to go into imme~iate effect in order that necessary statutory amendments to im~iement the Budge~ Act of 1987 ~ay be in e~fect throug~out the 1987-88 fiscal year. These amendments con~emplate ardina~ces by each county to imp~ement prov~sions of these amendmen~s. This ordinance may affect the amount of state fun~ing available ta th~ county for sta~e manda~ed jury service. In order that the ord~na~ce amendment be co~sistent ~ith the state urqency statute and be in effect for the same fiscal year period, it is necessary for this ordinance to take e~fe~t immediately. ~ection 3.
