ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY, PURSUANT TO
SECTIONS 6157 AND 54985 OF THE GOVERNMENT CODE,
TO IMPOSE A CHARGE ON A PERSONAL CHECK TF
SAID CHECK IS RETURNED WITHOUT PAYMENT
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
California, DO ORDAIN as follows:
Section 1. ARTICLE zI is added to Chapter 3 of the Butte
County Code to read as follows:
ARTICLE II. Payment of County Fees and Charges; Returned
Check Charge
Section 3-10. Pa ent of Count Fees and Char es b Personal
Check• Returned Check Char e. If any personal check offered in
payment of any County fee or charge, pursuant to Section 6157 of
the Government Code, is returned without payment, for any reason,
a charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.40}, hereby established in
accordance with Section 54985 of the Government Code, shall be
imposed on such returned check and added to the County fee or
charge in question.
Section 2. Severabilit If any part of this ordinance
shall be held void by a court of competent jurisdiction, such part
shall be deemed severable, and the invalidity thereof shall not
affect the remaining parts of this ordinance.
Section 3. Effective Date• Publication. This ordinance
shall be and it is hereby declared to be in full force and effect
from and after thirty (30) days after the date of its passage, and
before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage, this
ordinance shall be published once with the names of the members of
the Board of Supervisors voting for and against it in the Chico
Enterprise Record, a newspaper published in the Gounty of Butte,
State of California.

California, on the 19th day of November, 1991, by the following
vote:
AYES: Supervisors McInturf, McLaughlin, Fulton, ~Hdux';and Chair. Dolan

NOT VOTING: None
