AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING TEMPORARY EMERGENCY SHELTERS
TN THE CHTCO URBAN AREA
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte ordains ash
follows:
Section 1. Definitions. For purposes of this ordinance, the following
words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to
them by this section:
A. Chico Urban Area. All unincorporated areas within the
boundaries depicted on that map which is attached as appendix 1 to
Ordinance Number 3217.
B. Emergency Shelter. A church, public building or quasi-public
facility which provides emergency or temporary shelter. Such
accommodations may include temporary lodging, meals, laundry
facilities, bathing, counseling, and other basic support services.
C. uasi-Public Facilit A facility operated by a private non-
profit educational, religious, recreational, charitable, fraternal,
or medical institution, association or organization., said facility
having the purpose primarily of serving the general public, and
including, but not limited to, such uses as churches, private schools,
universities, community youth and senior citizen recreational
facilities, meeting halls and private hospitals.

Section 2. Emeraen.cv Shelters Allowed. Temporary emergency shelters
shall be allowed in the Chico Urban Area for a maximum of 27 days in
any 90-day period, provided such facilities are approved by the County
Building Official and County Fire Warden prior to use, and provided
that no other emergency shelter is operated within 500 feet during the
same 90-day period.
Section 3. Severability. If any provision of this Ordinance or the
application thereof to any person. or circumstances is for any reason
held to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such
provision shall be deemed severable, and the invalidity thereof shall
not affect the remaining provisions or other applications of the
Ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid pro,crision or

Section 4. Effective Date and Publication. This Ordinance shall take)
effect thirty {30y days after the date of its passage and shall remain
in effect through April 30, 2005, unless sooner repealed. The Clerk
of the Board of Supervisors is authorized and directed to publish this
ordinance before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its
passage. This Ordinance shall be published once, with the names of
the members of the Board of Supervisors voting for and against it, in
the Chico Enterprise a newspaper of general
circulation published in the County of Butte, State of California.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of
Butte, State of California, on the 27th day of June ,
2000, by the following vote:
