County Seal, to Chapter 1 of the Butte County Cade
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte ordains as follows:
Section 1.
Pursuant to the authority granted in California Government Code Section 2500, the
Board of Supervisors hereby adopts a County Seal.
Section 2.
Sections i-17.5 and 1-17.6 are added to Chapter 1 "General Pravisians" of the Butte
Caunty Code, to read as follows:
1-~7.5 Seal of the County of Butte
The seal of the County of Butte shall be circular in shape, with the design, form and
inscriptions corresponding substantially with the following representation thereof:
Upon adoption of the county seal by the Board of Supervisors, a description and
impression of the seal shall be filed in the office of the County Clerk.

I-17.6 Use of the County Seal
(a) The Seal of the County of Butte is a symbol of the County government and shall not
be used for purposes unrelated to County business. The following uses of the County Seal by
County officials, department heads and employees are approved uses: 1) County stationary and
forms; 2) County packaging; 3) County advertising and promotions; 4} County signs; 5} County
created institutional literature; 6} County transportation and related equipment; and 7) County
buildings, equipment and properly.
(b} The County Seal or any reproduction or facsimilie of the Seal shall not be affixed to
any object and/or displayed in any manner not set forth above unless the use has been approved
by the Chief Administrative Officer or the Board of Supervisors.
Requests to use the County Seal in a manner not set forth above shall be submitted in
writing to the County Administrative Officer for approval or disapproval.
(c} The Board of Supervisors may also approve the use of the County Seal for any
purpose if the use is approved by the Board of Supervisors at a duly noticed and convened
meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
(d} It is a violation of this ordinance for any person to use or allow to be used any
reproduction or facisimile of the County Seal in a manner not set forth in this section or as
approved by the Chief Administrative Officer or Board of Supervisors, or as prohibited in
California Elections Code Section 1$304.
(e} Violations are subject to the general penalties contained in Section 1-7 of the Butte
County Code and as defined in California Elections Code Section 18304.

Section 3.
This Ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days after the date of its passage. The Clerk
of the Board of Supervisors is authorized and directed to publish this ordinance before the
expiration of ffteen (15) days after its passage. This Ordinance shall be published once, with the
names of the members of the Board of Supervisors voting for and against it, in the Enterprise
Record, a newspaper of general circulation published in the County of Butte, State of California.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
California, on this 10"' day of February, 2009, by the fallowing vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Kirk, Lambert, Yamaguchi, and Chair Connelly
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: None
