Subject: Letter of Support endorsing the Board's position on regulating the
growth of marijuana plants in the County
Dear Board of Supervisors,
The Gridley City Council applauds your work in regulating the growth of
marijuana plants in the County. The State-wide permissive attitude regarding
marijuana plant cultivation was not what the voters were thinking when they
685 Kentucky Street passed the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 (Prop. 215), nor when State Law SB
420 was enacted.

This Council has long believed that this obnoxious, foul smelling plant has little
place in society. In December 2007, this Council heard public testimony from
residents regarding the negative impacts associated with the cultivation of outdoor
medicinal marijuana in residential neighborhoods. The complaints ranged from
noxious odors from mature marijuana plants, increased traffic and disturbances,
diminished sense of security and inability to use outdoor areas {due to odors). For
these reasons, this City's position has been to limit cultivation to indoor areas and
only for qualified patients or their primary caregiver, who can only grow the
amount of marijuana authorized by the Health and Safety Code.
It is encouraging to us to see the County Board of Supervisors taking this stand
and we hope more jurisdictions follow your lead.
