BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE. STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE
PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1213
WHEREAS, the County of Butte is presently taking
mortgages to secure unpaid bills of the Butte County Hospital,
which said mortgages provide the grantors-may continue the use and
enjoyment of their property during their lifetime and the
lifetime of their dependents;:arid
WHERFaAS, it is estimated that County's recovery by
reason of said mortgages amounts to approximately $30,000.00 per
year; and
WHEREAS, the procedure of requiring and taking mortgages
has acted as a deterrent in the use of county facilities by
persons whose families can afford private medical care and
hospitali2ation, all of which has been a great aid and assistance
to the County of Butte in being able to furnish adequate medical
care to those who cannot afford it; and
WHEREAS, one of the possible consequences in the
adoption of Assembly Biil 1213 would be to over-crowd the Butte
County Hospital and ultimately require large capital expenditures
for additional facilities;
NOW,. THEREFORE, IT IS HERESY RESOLVED by the BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS of the County of Butte, State of California, as
follows:
1. That said Board :opposes the passage of Assembly
Bi11 1213.
2. That the Clerk of this Board shall forward a
certified copy of this resolution to the Chairman of the Senate
Committee on Social Welfare, the Chairman of the Assembly
Committee on Social Welfare, Senator Paul L. Byrne,

1 Assemblyman Harold T. Sedgwick, and to any and all other persons
2 as may be directed by the Chairman of this Board.
3 The foregoing resolution was introduced by Supervisor
4 'Prude who moved its adoption, seconded by Supervisor
5 Steinegger and said resolution was passed this 8th
g day of May, 1961, on roll call by the following vote:
7 AYES : Supervisors A17.dredge, Pittman, Pride, Steinegger and
Chairman Giles
