Dear Mr. Giles:
It is~a real pleasure this year to notify you that we are again
preparing to make allotments of State moneys to counties toward
the maintenance of county service offices. Governor Edmund G.
Brown-included in his budget request to the Legislature this
session an appropriation of $500,000 for this purpose as compared
with $G350s~ last. year. The Legislature complied with this request
and we are in the fortunate position of making amore liberal
contribution toward tYais worth while service. Following is the
policy which will prevail in contracts negotiated for fiscal year
19b1-62:
1. 95 per cent of the salary paid to the county service
officer, or $75 per month toward the payment of such
salary, whichever is the lesser amount.
2. 95 per cent of the expenditures for materials, supplies
and service required for activities of the county
. service officer, or ~150.per quarter thereof, whichever
is the lesser-amount.
3, .Not less than 50 per cent nor more than £30 per cent of
the salary pairs one assistant to the county service
officer. Fn the event the salary of the assistant
equals or exceeds that of the county service officer,
the reimbursement for the salary of the assistant
shall be 50 per cent.
k. 50 per cent of the salaries of additional-assistants
to 'the county service officer:
~.~~~
Chairman, Board of Supervisors -2- July 17, 1961
~. Zn no event shall the total amount of State funds allocated
for any county service office exceed X35,000, however funds
remaining in the appropriation at the close of the fiscal
year may be distributed to such counties, if any, provided '
the State's reimbursement does not exceed the basic policy
as set forth in paragraphs 1 to 4 above.
We are enclosing application and resolution forms in triplicate which
should be completed and returned in duplicate to this office as soon as
possible, together with a copy of the approved budget for your county
service office, showing the annual salary for each position listed.
When your application for allotment has been. approved by this Department,
contracts will be mailed to your authorized representative for execution
in quadruplicate.
A11 communications in connection with this program should be addressed
to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Division of Service and
.Coordination, P. 0. Hox 1559, Sacramento 7, California.
Sincerely,
