Hem~F Dear Mr. Giles: It is~a real pleasure this year to notify you that we are again preparing to make allotments of State moneys to counties toward the maintenance of county service offices. Governor Edmund G. Brown-included in his budget request to the Legislature this session an appropriation of $500,000 for this purpose as compared with $G350s~ last. year. The Legislature complied with this request and we are in the fortunate position of making amore liberal contribution toward tYais worth while service. Following is the policy which will prevail in contracts negotiated for fiscal year 19b1-62: 1. 95 per cent of the salary paid to the county service officer, or $75 per month toward the payment of such salary, whichever is the lesser amount. 2. 95 per cent of the expenditures for materials, supplies and service required for activities of the county . service officer, or ~150.per quarter thereof, whichever is the lesser-amount. 3, .Not less than 50 per cent nor more than £30 per cent of the salary pairs one assistant to the county service officer. Fn the event the salary of the assistant equals or exceeds that of the county service officer, the reimbursement for the salary of the assistant shall be 50 per cent. k. 50 per cent of the salaries of additional-assistants to 'the county service officer: ~.~~~ Chairman, Board of Supervisors -2- July 17, 1961 ~. Zn no event shall the total amount of State funds allocated for any county service office exceed X35,000, however funds remaining in the appropriation at the close of the fiscal year may be distributed to such counties, if any, provided ' the State's reimbursement does not exceed the basic policy as set forth in paragraphs 1 to 4 above. We are enclosing application and resolution forms in triplicate which should be completed and returned in duplicate to this office as soon as possible, together with a copy of the approved budget for your county service office, showing the annual salary for each position listed. When your application for allotment has been. approved by this Department, contracts will be mailed to your authorized representative for execution in quadruplicate.
