RESOLUTION OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL 635

~ WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Legislature of
'!6 the State of California a bill known as A. B. 636; and
7 WHEREAS, said bill would add Section 439 to the Welfare
8 ar_d Institutions Code, which said Section would read as follows:
9 "The cost of hospitalization, goods, services or other
payments furnished by a county to a recipient shall not
10 constitute a lien against the real or personal property
of the recipient, and the county shall •take no action
11 to recover from the recipient, the cost incurred by i•t
for such Yospitalization, goods, services, or other
12 payments, or any part thereof."

14 WHEREAS, should said bill become law it would preclude
15 counties from recovering from hospitalization furnished and deny
18 counties a source of revenue particularly in connection with •the
17 operation of county hospitals and force counties to secure
18 additional revenue from local taxation for the support of said
19 hospitals.
20 NOW¢ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
21 of the County of Butte as follows:
22 1. That said Board does hereby oppose Assembly Bill 636

,23 and respectfully requests that the Legislature of the State of
24 California does not approve said bill.
25 2. That the Clerk of this Board is hereby directed to
26 send copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Stanley Pittman,
27 State Senator; Honorable Harold Booths Assemblyman; and Honorable
28 Phillip Burtont Assemblyman and Chairman of the Assembly Committee

29 on Social Welfare; and to the Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Governor
30 of the State of California.
