3 RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO ASSEMBLY BILL 59O

5 WHEREP.S, the County o£ Butte maintains public library services in
g accordance with Division 20 of the Education Code of the State of California;
7 and
$ WHEREAS, Assembly Bill No. 590 would provide State funds for public
g library services; and
1O WHEREAS, said Assembly Bi]1 No. 590 purports to retain local control
11 of said public library services; nevertheless it has been the experience of
12 the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, that
13 whenever State or Federal funds are accepted to augment local or county
14 financing, that invariably the acceptance of said funds results in creeping
15 control by State and Federal Governments; and
16 WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte vigorously
17 opposes any further encroachment upon local or county control of county's own
18 facilities;
19 NOWT THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS of the
2O COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIE'ORNIA., assfollows:
21 1. That said Board opposes the passage of Assembly Bill No. 590 in
22 its'' entirety.
23 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Senator Stanley
24 Pittman, Assemblyman Harold E. Booth, Assemblywoman Mrs. Pauline Davis,
25 Senator Fred Farr, the Counties Supervisors Association of California, and to
26 any and all other persons designated by the Chairman of this Board.
27 The foregoing Resolution was duly adopted and passed this 12th day
28 of March, 1963, on roll call by the following vote:
.29 AYES: Supervisors Alldredge, Giles, McKillop, Pryde and
Chairman Steinegger
30 NOES: None
31 ABSENT: None
