HomeMy WebLinkAbout63-037iii l 1 I RESOLUTION NOo 63--37 2 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTX_OF BUTTEr STATE OF CALIFORNI_A__ ,3 RESOLUTION IN RE LAW DAY' Uo S_ A. 5 WHEREAS, the state of world affairs makes it especially 6 fitting that each of us, as citizens of this great nation, should '~ reaffirm our faith in the rule of law and in the supremacy of 8 government'by laws rather than men; and ~ WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States, and the President 10 by official proclamation:,-, have designated May 1 as Law Day USAo 11 The basic aims of Law Day are to foster increased respect for 12 law, for independent courts which uphold the law, and for a deeper 13 awareness of the benefits and responsibilities of citizenship; and 14 WHEREAS, liberty and equality for the individual are what 1:5 distinguish our system of government from communism, under which 16 millions of people today live in fear and tyranny. No better time 17 could be chosen to call public attention to our great heritage of 18 individual liberty under law. 19 NOW,. THEREFORE, the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF 20 BUTTE, do hereby designate Wednesday, May 1, 1963, as haw Day USA 21 in the County of Butte, and call upon all citizens, organizations 22 and schools to recognize this special day with suitable programs, 23 ceremonies', and education activities. 24 The',foregoing Resolution was introduced by Supervisor 25 Giles who moved its adoption, seconded by 26 Supervisor' McKillop , and said Resolution was 27 adopted and passed this 30th day of April, 1963, upon mll call by 28 the following vote: 29 AYES; Supervisors.A,LLdredge, Giles, McKillop and Chairman Steinegger 30 NOES: Supervisor Pryde ABSENT : None ~~ ~ >~~.~ 31 ATTEST: ' CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD SUPERVISORS 32 ,TESSIE ROGERS, County OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTES STATE OF Clerk and ex-officio Clerk CALIFORNIA. of the Board of Supervisors Dep,~y Clerk
