BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
' COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CLAIM OF ELMER SMTTH FOR ALLOTMENT
OF FEDERAL LANDS
WHEREAS, ELMER SMITH, life long resident of Butte County,
is a direct descendant of the last headman of the Maidu Indian
tribe, which village was located on the site of Mr. Smith's
home, known as the Andy Smith Ranch on the U.S.G.S. Topographic
Map; and
WHEREAS, ELMER SMITH and his family are well known in the
community as valued residents of Butte County, who have aided
historians and archeologists immeasurably in the recardation of
local Indian history and language; and
WHEREAS it is the desire of ELMER SMITH and his family to
obtain from the Federal Government the right to retain the land
which has been possessed by his family since before recorded
history; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, that it does hereby
approve of and support ELMER SMITH and his family in their claim
to allotments of government land, as is provided for by the laws
of the United States.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution
sha11 be sent by the Clerk of the Board, to all gavernmental
officials concerned herewith, and to such other persons as may be
designated by this Board.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the BOARD GF SUPERVISORS of the Caunt
of Butte, State of California, this 5th day of May, 1964, by the

be necessary for current maintenance, operation, or repairs.
(d) The repairing, restoring or rebuilding of any school building damaged, injured, or destroyed by
fire or other public calamity.
(e) The supplying of school buildings and grounds with furniture, equipment or necessary apparatus
of a permanent nature.
(f) The permanent improvement of the school grounds.
(h) The carrying out of the projects or purposes authorized in Education code
Section ~b813, to-wit• Providing sewers and,dgains adequate to treat and/or
(all of which were there y unr~ed to,be voted upon as one srngte proposrtron ;
dispose of sewage and drainage on or away. from each school property.
That said election was called by posting notices thereof, signed by a majority of said governing board, in
at least three public places in said district, not less than twenty days before said election, and said. notice was
