BOARD OF :SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF PUBLIC SERVICE RENDERED
BY :SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE
WF~EREAS, SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE died on the 30th day of
3uly, 1964; and
~AHEREAS, SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE, at the time of his death
and since 1958 was the UNITED STATES SENATOR from California;
and
AIIEREAS, SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE has served the people of
the State of California for thirty (30) years from the time when
he was first elected District Attorney in Tehama County in 1934,
through his election to the State Senate in 1942, to the Congress
of the United States in I943, his five terms in the House of
Representatives, and his election to the Senate in 1958, where he
served until the time of his death; and
TaHEREA'S, among SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE'S many accomplish»
ments in the past twenty (20) years, he was the sponsor of every
bill before the Congress authorizing expansion of the State
Central Valley Project,
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HERBY RESOLVED by the BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, as
follows, to wit:
1. The Board wishes to express its feeling of deep
personal Ioss by reason of the death of :SENATOR CLAIR ENGLE, and
wishes to extend its condolences to his wife, LUCRI'TIA ENGLE,
and to the members of his familyo
20 That said Board hereby acknowledges and expresses
its appreciation for the public service rendered by SENATOR CLAIR
ENGLE during his lifetime to the State of California, and to the

residents of the County of Butte.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this Board be
directed to certify a copy of this Resolution and deliver a copy
of said Resolution to Mrs. Clair Engle, and to members of his
family,.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of th e
County of Butte, State of California, this 4th day of August,
19.54, by the following vote;
