RESOLUTION NOo 65- I
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
R;SOLUTION REQUESTING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED
STATES TO GONTINUE BRACERO PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Public Law 78 allowed the importation and use
of Mexican National Supplementary Workers (Braceras) to the
United States and terminated on December 31, 1964; and
W~i:EREAS, the provisions of Public Law 414 are inadequate
to supply the immediate needs of the farmers of the State of
California for additional farm workers to harvest the citrus crop
and ether winter craps now in progress; and
AHEREAS, approximately 10,000 Mexican National farm
workers have been removed from employment in the State of Calif-
ornia without assurance that domestic workers can or will be
available to replace them, which will cause irreparable harm to
the farmers of the State of California, due to loss of the current
citrus crop and other winter harvest, unless appropriate measures
are taken immediately by the Federal Government cf the.United
States,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, that the President
of the United States is hereby requested to issue an appropriate
Executive Order to permit the retention and continued use in
this country of Mexican National Supplementary ~7orkers in suff~
icient numbers to meet the needs of the farmers of the 'State of
California until equivalent workers can be supplied through
Public Law 41+0
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this board be
directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to the
President of the United States, the United States Secretary of
LaborQ the United States Attorney General, the Governor of the
State of California, and all other interested partiese
