BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
1 COUNTY' OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
2 RESOLUTION PROTESTING PROPOSED CHANGE IN USE OF FEDERAL
AiQD SECONDARY HIGHWAY FUNDS

4 WHEREAS, Federal Aid Secondary Highway funds have traditi~
5 onally been restricted to the improvement to adequate standards
g of farm~to«market, timber and forest productswto~market and
7 mineral products and minerals~toMmarket roads; and
;g WHEREAS, there still does exist a glaring deficiency in
g bringing these types of roads in Butte County, Calif(~rnia, up to
10 modern day standards; and
11 WHEREAS, it has been suggested that the Federal Highway Law
12 be amended to require, at least some part of the Federal Aid
13 Secondary Road Funds apportioned to the various states be used fo
14 11improving access to recreational areas re~*routing of Federal Ai
15 Highways and Roads for scenic purposes and increasing attention t
16 aesthetic considerations in highway design and improvement"~ and
;17 WHEREAS, the members of this Association recognize the need
18 for scenic highways and the need for aesthetic considerations in
ag highway design and construction, however, we feel that these
20 considerations should not be achieved at the expense of providing
`'21 the fundamental type of basic pro ducts~+to•~market roads now author
22 ized by Federal Law and Regulations,
23 N03~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
24 of the County of Butte that they strongly oppose the use of Feder
25 eral Aid Secondary Highway Funds for uses other than basic
26 producesRto~market roads without a corresponding increase in
27 appropriations to accomplish and finance these other purposes.-
28 PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the
'29 County of Butte, State of California, this 9th day of March,
30 1965,. by the following vote:
