COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION CONCERNING EMPLOYMENT OF MEN RECEIVING
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE FUNDS UNDER THE AID TO FAMILIE5
WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN UN~LOYED FATHERS PROGRAM
WHEREAS, there exists in California a serious shortage of
manpower to harvest the crops; and
'GlHEREAS, the agricultural industry is one of the major
industries in t1-ie entire State of California, and every citizen
of California is dependent upon agricultural production; and
WHEREAS, there exist at the present time approximately
12,000 men in all of the 58 counties of California who are bew
tween the ages of 21 and 35. and receiving public assistance funds
under the Aid To Families With Dependent Children Unemployed
Fathers Program; and
WHEREAS, most of these men are able bodied, willing to
work and need jobs, while at the same time there is a tremendous
shortage of manpower in the fields,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Superµ
visors of the County of Butte does hereby instruct the Director
of the Department of Social Welfare to offer forthwith to the
farmers of California this available manpower in Butte County,
and state as a policy that, if there are decent working conditions
and prevailing wages are paid as determined by the State and
Federal government, a recipient of welfare who is offered work
and refuses, will be cut off the relief rolls, subject to all
legal requirements.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the clerk of this board
forward copies of this resolution to such interested parties and
officials as may be designated by the chairman of this board,

2 County of Butte, State of California, this 25th day of May, 1965,
3 by the following vote:
