COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO SENATE BILL 256
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is considering.
Senate Bi11 256; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 256 would act to repeal Section 14~B
of the Taft~Hartley Act; and
WHEREAS, Section 14~B provides the right of an individual
to work without being required to join a labor union; and
1rlHEREAB, if repealed, a condition of employment would
require membership in a union; and
WHEREAS, the effect of the repeal of Section 14+•B would be
to remove freedom of choice in employment which violates the basic
concepts of our constitutional rights for freedom to work,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Butte, State of California;
1. That they oppose Senate Bi11 256, as its passage would
be a grave injustice and would permit economic discrimination
against the working public; and
2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Honorrt
able Hardold T. (Bizz) Johnson, the Honorable Thomas Ho Kuchel,
the Honorable George Murphy, and to such other parties as may be
deemed proper by the chairman of this board.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte, State of California, this 17th day of August,
1965, by the following vote:
AYES: SUPERVISORS GIBES, HOtdSDEN~ NIAXON McKILLOP and
CHl~IRI~IAN PRY~E.
