RESOLUTION N0. 65- c~
BOARD OF SUPII2VISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, 'STATE OE CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION OF JTM WAYNE LAUDERDALE
WHEREAS, on October 26, 1965, at a meeting of a local
service club, JIM WAYNE LAUDERDALE was introduced and made
observations; and
WHEREAS, his observations were as follows:
"I would like to speak to you concerning something of
great interest to all people who wish for - or have - what
we know as freedom.
"I am speaking for the students of Pleasant Valley Senior
High School. We, the students, wish to promote peaceful
and friendly relationships with all foreign countries.
However, when at any time it should be necessary for us to
g,o into combat for our freedom, we will - and we hope you,
too, will be willing - whether it be in Viet .Nam, China,
Russia, or in our homeland; for we recognize Communism as
a major threat to our freedom and our society.
"We do wholeheartedly denounce any and all persons who
think they are doing the will of God by tearing up their
'draft cards'. For the Lord said to render unto Caesar
that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's.
"In closing, I would like to let you know that we, the
students, recognize fighting for our freedoms as both a
privilege and a duty,"
NOW, THEREFORE, BR IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisor
of the County of Butte do, by these presents, commend JIM WAYNE
LAUDERDALE and the students of Pleasant Valley Senior High School
for their very mature and patriotic expressions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
inscribed on a scroll and presented to JIM WAYNE LAUDERDALE and
the students of Pleasant Valley Senior High School.
