HomeMy WebLinkAbout66-079 RESOLUTION N0, 66-79 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO UNITED STATES SENATE BILL N0. 1592 AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BILL N0. 6628 'WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has pending 9, 10- 11 12 13 14 15 26 1Z 18 I, 19' 20 21 22. 23 24. 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 before it for action, Renate Bill Nod 1592, and House of Representatives Bill No. 6628, which would authorize the federal government to assert absolute contral of sale and possession of firearms; and WHEREAS, such legislation would seriously infringe upon the rights of the citizens of the United States to possess and bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and WHEREAS, such legislation would not materially affect the use of firearms by criminal elements of our society, but would unreasonably interfere with the legitimate use of firearms by reputable citizens; and WHEREAS, such legislation would materially and adversely affect the recreation industry within the United States, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California., as follows: That this board go on record as strongly opposing United States Senate Bill No. 1592 and House of Representatives Bill No. 6b28, as being an unreasonable, unsatisfactory and unconstitutional means of attempting to prohibit the use of firearms by the cirminally inclined elements of our society, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the. Clerk of the board is .hereby instructed to send cop of this resoluti~ to United States Senators Thomas Kuchel and George Nhirphy, Congressman Harold T.
