HomeMy WebLinkAbout66-155f 1. ,~ RESOLUTION NO. 66-155 1' BOARD OF SUPERVISORS 2 COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA 3 RESOLUTION Ij1tOTE'STING THE PROPOSED ABANDONMENT BY THE WE'STII2N PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY OF THE CALIFORNIA 4 ZEPHYR PASSENGER TRAIN 5 6 WHEREAS, the Western Pacific Railroad Company has made 7 application to the Interstate Commerce Commission to discontinue 8 the operation of its California Zephyr passenger trains, otherwise 9 known as trains 17 and 18, between San Francisco and Salt Lake 10 City; and 11 WHEREAS, the Interstate Commerce Commission has ordered 12' that hearings be held to hear protests regarding the proposed ].3 discontinuance of this train; and 14' WHEREAS, in the calendar year 1965 8,145 revenue 15 passengers boarded or departed the California Zephyrs at Oroville; 16 and 17 WHEREAS, this patronage demonstrates the need for the lg continued operation of the California Zephyr; and 19 WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Supervisors to 20 assist the Western Pacific Railroad Company in exploring sources 21 of additional revenue so that the trains may continue in service; 22 and 23 WHEREAS, the California Zephyr is the only train remaining 24 that serves Butte County, 2~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, 2s 1. That said board does hereby of record protest the 27 proposed discontinuance by the Western Pacific Railroad Company 2g of the California Zephyr passenger train, 29 2. That said board does hereby urge the Interstate 30 Commerce Commission to deny the company's application, 31 3.
