BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO UNITED STATES SENATE
BILL N0. 1 AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BILL. NO. 5384
~IEREA`5, the Congress of the United States has pending before
it for action, Senate Bill No, 1, and House of Representatives
Bill No. 5384, which would authorize the federal government to
assert absolute control of sale and possession of firearms; and
"WHEREAS, such legislation would seriously infringe upon
the rights of the citizens of the United States to possess and
bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitutes
ion of the United States; and
'WHEREAS, such legislation would not materially affect
the use of firearms by criminal elements of our society, but
would unreasonably interfere with the legitimate use of firearms
by reputable citizens; and
WHEREAS, such legislation would materially and adversely
affect the recreation industry within the United States9
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Butte, State of California, as follows:
That this board go on record as strongly opposing United
States Senate Bill No. 1, and House of Representatives Bi11 No.
5384, as being an unreasonable, unsatisfactory and unconstitution•
al means of attempting to prohibit the use of firearms by the
criminally inclined elements of our society.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the board is hereby
instructed to send copies of this resolution to United States
Senators Thomas H. Kuchel and George Murphy, Congressman Harold
To 19Bizz" Johnson, State Senator Fred Marler, and Assemblyman
Ray Johnson, and to all interested representatives of the county
