2 AN ORDINANCE MAKING PROSTTTUTTON UNLAWFUI,
AND PROVIDING PENAI,TX THEREFOR

~4 The-Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
5 California, do ordain as folloi~is:
6 SECTION 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or
7 carry on, or become an inmate of, or a visitor to or to an~r way
8 contribute to the support of, any house of ill fame or prostitutio
9 in the County of Butte, or to aid, or assist, or be engaged in
10 carrying on or causing prostitution, or to induce, or attempt to
I1 induce, or by any solicitation, prostitution to be carried on in
12 any house, room or place in the County of Butte, or to solicit by
13 word, act, gesture, sign or otherwise any .~i~ex~a~~~.' for the purpose
14 of prostitution.
15 SECTION 2: It shall be unlawful for any person in the County
16 of Butte engaged in conducting any lodging house, rooming house,
17 apartment house, motel, or hotel to knowingly permit any person to
18 lodge therein without first requiring him to register his true name,
19 and address in a register kept for that purpose, or to let any
20 room therein for the purpose of prostitution, or to knowingly
2I allow any room to be used, or for any person occupying any room in
22 any lodging house, apartment house, or motel, or hotel, to refuse
23 to register as herein provided, or to enter such room for the pur-
24 pose of prostitution
25 SECTION 3: Any person violating any of the provisions of this
2g ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon con-
27 viction thereof shall be punishable. by a fine of not more than
28 $500.00 or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not
29 more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
30 SECTION 4: This ordinance shall take, effect thirty days after
31 the date of its adoption, and prior to the expiration of fifteen
32 (15) days from the passage hereof shall be published in a newspaper

printed and published in the County of Butte, State of California,
together with the names of the members of the Board of Supervisors
voting for and against the same.
The foregoing ordinance was duly adopted and passed by the
Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California,
at a regular meeting thereof, held on the ~~t,n day of dune ,
1960, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Alldredge, Oiles, Hu~;~;ins, rnc~ernan and
Chairman Pryde
NOES: None
ABSENT : None
