1 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
2 COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
3 RESOLUTION CONC~;RNING RETENTION OF RECLAI`1ATION BOARD
4 WHEREAS, the County of Butte is situate sa that the
6 Sacramento River flows its full extent, as well as having many
6 tributaries to the Sacramento River, through the county; and
7 WHEREAS, the Reclamation Board of the State of California
8 was established for the preservation of navigation and the
9 reclamation and protection of lands that are susceptible to
10 overflow from the Sacramento River and its tributaries; and
11 WH~2EAS, the Reclamation Board presents an opportunity
12 to the affected counties to be heard; and
13 WHEREAS, throughout the full extent of the jurisdiction
14 of the Reclamation Board some three million people are interested,
15 40`/0 of the land in the State of California is concerned, and 50%
16 of the total water is involved; and
lq WHEREAS, there has been a proposal submitted to eliminate
lg the Reclamation Board and distribute their powers and authority
19 elsewhere; and
20 WHEREAS, the County of Butte is vitally interested in the
21 problems with which the Reclamation Board is concerned,
22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
23 of the County of Butte that the Reclamation Board, as established
24 by law and presently operating, be retained in its present form.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
2g sent to the Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State of
2q California, the Honorable Ray Johnson, Assemblyman of the State of
28 California, Honorable Fred rlarler, Senator of the State of Calif-
29 ornia; and to the Department of Nat Ural Resources, and to such
30 other interested persons as thi board may designate.
