1 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
2 COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
3 RESOLUTION PROTESTING THE FROPOSED ABANDONMENT BY THE
WESTERN PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY OF THE CALIFORNIA
4 ZEPHYR PASSENGER TRAIN

6 WHEREAS, the Western Pacific Railroad Company has made
7 application to the Interstate Commerce Commission to discontinue
8 the operation of its California Zephyr passenger trains, otherwise
9 known as trains 17 and 18, between San Francisco and Salt Lake
10 City; and
Il WHEREAS, the Interstate Commerce Commission has ordered
12 that hearings be held to hear protests regarding the proposed
13 discontinuance of this train; and
14 WHEREAS, in the calendar year 1967, approximately 8,001
15 passengers boarded or departed the California Zephyrs at Oroville;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, this patronage demonstrates the need for the
18 continued operation of the California Zephyr; and
I9 WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Supervisors to
20 assist the Western Facific Railroad Company in exploring sources
21 of additional revenue so that the trains may continue in service;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, the California Zephyr is the only train remaining
24 that serves Butte County,
28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
26 to That said board does hereby of record protest the
27 proposed discontinuance by the Western Facific Railroad Company
28: of the California Zephyr passenger train,
29 2. That said board does hereby urge the Interstate
30 Commerce Commission to deny the company's application,
31 3. That in the event the application by the company is
32 denied, said board pledges its assistance in any efforts to help

the company in seeking wags and means so that continued operation
of the California Zephyrs will be possible in the interest of
serving the public convenience and necessity.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board .of Supervisars of the
County of Butte, State of California, this 16th day of January,
1968, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dunaway, Howsden, McKillop, Pryde & Chairman Maxon
