RESOLUTION N0. 68-84
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNTA
RESOLUTION URGING REGULATION OF THE; EXPORTATION OF
UNPROCESSED ZAGS FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, exportation of unprocessed logs from the Pacific
Northwest to Japan has increased greatly during the last year, and
indications are that further substantial increases can be expected;
and
WHEREAS, limitations on the exportation of logs from Westerc
Washington and Western Oregon by the Secretaries of Agriculture
and Interior, on April 22, 1968, mean that such increased export
activity must come from Northern California; and
WH'?,REAS, the processing in this area of logs produced here
represents an important part of the economy of Butte County and
must be encouraged; and
WHEREAS, the increase in exportation of logs from Northern
California alone would bring about serious curtailment in the
domestic log supply to the effect that numerous mills would be
curtailed or shut down, and unemployment experienced in such area,
NOW, TH~;REFORE', BE IT RESOLVED that the Secretaries of
Agriculture and Interior be, and they are hereby, urged to place
the same restriction on log exports presently placed on lands
owned by the United States in Western Oregon and Western Washington
to Northern California, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
sent to Senators Kuchel and Murphy, Congressman Harold T. Johnsan,
and to Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte, State of California, this 11th day of June, 1968,
by the following vote:
