sua~ECr: Amendment of Butte County Contract with Public Employees Retirement System
to exclude extra help employees.
en're: July 23, 1968
Employees who are classified as extra help and paid correspondingly on
an hourly basis, are not members of Public Employees Retirement Systomo
Because these employees are of a temporary nature, they have been tradi-
tionally excluded from membership, saving Butte County taxpayers approxi-
mately $2b,000.-00 yearly in related overheads.
We have been notified by Public Employees Retirement System that in order
to continue exclusion of these employees an amendment to our retirement
contract excluding hourly employees must be enacted. Attached is a
Resolution of Intention to amend Butte County's retirement contract to
exclude persons paid on an hourly basis employed on or after September 1,
1968, to be enacted by the governing body.
In order to apply this amendment to persons presently employed, it will be
necessary to terminate all extra help on August 31, 1968, 5:00 p.m. and
reinstate these employees on September 1, 8:30 a.m. 1968. A termination
for this purpose should be without effect on the accrued sick leave of
-the individual employee.
[3pon enactment and subsequent forwarding of the resolution of intention
to PERS, an amended contract will be forwarded to Butte County for enact-
ment before September 1, 1968.
