RESOLUTION NO. 68-~
BOARD OF SUPERVTSORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO BOYCOTT OF CALIFORNIA GRAPES
WHEREAS, this Board is concerned over the attempted boycott
of California grapes; and
WHEREAS, there is some commercial grape faxming in this
county; and
WHEREAS, the concept of boycott is manifestly unfair in its
application, and in this particular situation the boycott could:'
result in injury to farmers who are not party to the exis ting
labor dispute; and
WHEREAS, this Board does not oppose unionization of
agricultural workers on a voluntary basis, but does oppose the
use of economic sanctions against farm employers to compel their
workers to join unions against their desireso
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Butte, State of California, as follows:
1. That this Board respectfully condemns the attempted
boycott on California grapes or any other agricultural product and
respectfully requests that those engaged in this practice cease
and desist therefrom.
2, That a copy of this resolution be mailed to our two
United States Senators and our Congressman with our request that
they lend their assistance and persuasa~e powers to end this
boycotto
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte, State of California, this 17th day of September, 1968,
by the following vote:
AYES:Supervisors Dunaway, Pryde and Chairman Maxon
NOES : None
ABSENT: None
