BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
1 RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE USE OF UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
FACTLTTTES BY ELDRIDGE CLEAVER

3 WHEREAS, it has been reported to this Board of Supervisors
~} that the Regents of the University of California have allowed the
b use of university facilities to Eldredge Cleaver; and
g WHEREAS, it has been reported that Cleaver has made public
ry statements advocating the use of force and violence, including
g deadly force to overthrow our governments, to inflict death and
g injury on our citizens; and
10 WHEREAS, Cleaver intends to use university facilities to
11 further advocate such use of force and to spread his sociopathic
12 hate doctrines; and
13 WHEREAS, the University of California is supposed to be
l~k an institution of higher learning rather than a nesting place for
15 insidious criminals and raucous racists; and
16 WHEREAS, the University of California should be the
lq receptacle of human virtue rather than of human rubbish; and
lg WHEREAS, such policy would be adopted by state colleges;
19 and
20 WHEREAS, we, as members of the Board of Supervisors of the
21 County of Butte, are responsible for the health, safety, and wel-
22 fare of the citizens of Butte County, some of whom attend the
23 University of California at Berkeley; and Chico State College; and
24 WiiEREAS, we have witnessed the malignant growth of dis-
2g order, chaos and riots; and
26 WHEREAS, the Regents of the University of California shoul<
27 not suffer, permit, or allow the preaching on it's property of the
28' assassination and destruction of the good, peaceful, and progress-
29 ive order of the people of the State of California, whether by its
30 paid faculty or by the "Guest Lecturer" subterfuge,
31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
32 OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE:

1. That the Regents of the University of California
reverse its decision and prevent the use of university facilities
by Eldridge Cleaver, X3cE2x~jckx&~xX~cxx~l~x
2. That the Regents of the University of Califirnia
select as speakers and fatuity members, those who are not convicte
criminals, who are not insidious rioters, who are not advocates of
the use of violence to gain social or political ends.
3. That the Regents of the University of California begin
to realize that reasonable debate does not include the furnishing
of a public, tax supported, platform for Cleaver, or any other
Black, White, Red, or Green Power advocate for the purpose of
infecting our youth with the virulence of hate, death, and dis-
order.
4. That we, as citizens and as local elected officials,
intend to inform the People of the State of California of our
intention to protect and foster freedom of speech, as well as
freedom to deter, through lawful means, the prognostications of
Cleaver .a~ck~a~emssx~x~si~x~ahc.
