COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL N0. 35
WHEREAS, historically there has been in existence maximum
tax rates for school districts; and
WHEREAS, Education. Code 'Section 20751.1 would eliminate the
imposition of maximum tax rates upon school districts on or after
July 1, 1971, said section having been enacted into law in 1967;
and
WIiEREAS, education represents the largest single category
of spending at both the state and local level; and
WHEREAS, the existence of a maximum tax rate has given the
taxpayers of school districts a limited protection. and further,
through the utilization of a tax over-ride election, has given .
the taxpayers an element of control over needed educational ex-
penses; and
WHEREAS, this board finds that it is to the benefit of the
taxpayers and the individual school districts themselves to
continue maximum tax rates for school districts,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Butte, State of California, that this board
strongly supports Senate Bill No. 35 and respectfully commends
its passage by the legislature.
That copies of this resolution be distributed to the Honor-
able Fred Marler, Senator of the State of California, the Honor-
able Ray Johnson, Assemblyman of the 'State of California, to
the honorable members of the assembly committee on Education., the
Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State of California, and
to the Northern California Supervisors Association and to the
County Supervisors Association of California, and to all such othe
interested parties.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte, State of California, this 4th day of February, 1969,
