HomeMy WebLinkAbout69-0221 '2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 RESOLUTION N0. 69-~ BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL N0. 5 WHEREAS, this board has been shocked and grieved over the turmoil and violence that has recently disturbed many of our state colleges and state universities; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 5 would add to Section 602.8 of the Penal Code and would make such disruptive conduct a misdemeanor on the first offense, with attendant increases in degrees of punishment for subsequent offenses; and WHEREAS, this board believes it to be mandatory that the disruptive conduct in our state colleges and universities be immediately terminated, and believes that the proposed legislation in Senate Bill No. 5 will give the authorities involved an additi- onal device with which to put an end to disruptive conduct in our state colleges and universities, NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RE50LVED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, that this board strongly endorses and supports Senate Bill No. 5, and respectfully commends its passage by the state legislature. That copies of this resolution be distributed to the Honorable Fred P4arler, Senator of the State_of California, the Honorable Ray Johnson, Assemblyman of the State of California, to the honorable members of the Senate Committee on Education, the honorable members of the Senate Committee on Education, the Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State of California, and to the Northern California Supervisors Association, and to the County Supervisors Association of California, and to the Assembly Criminal Procedure Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee, and to all such other interested parties.
